Two worlds brought together: On 17 October 2018, 50 experts from EUSALP and LEADER gathered for a match-making event in Torino, Italy. Rrepresentatives of the EU Macroregional Strategy for the Alpine area, Action Group Green Infrastructure, and of the LEADER programme identified potential synergies and framed options for joint action. The field of participants covered a broad range from regional development managers from Italy, Austria, Germany, Slovenia and Switzerland via regional and national environment and agriculture ministries to EU Commission representatives and European Parliament members.
Several themes turned out appropriate for implementing green infrastructure projects in LEADER Local Action Groups (LAGs), for example nature-based tourism, rural-urban cooperation and climate change mitigation and adaptation. To foster cooperation and to (better) exploit synergies in practice, a bundle of recommendations addressing EUSALP and LAGs as well as EU programme level were formulated.
Thomas Probst facilitated the one day event on behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment. The workshop was co-organised by Regione Piemtone. A follow-up event is planned.
